We’ve been extremely busy since the start of the school year, so here’s a quick round up 2019/20...

Updated: Feb 12, 2021

New Parent Coffee Mornings

On Friday 6th and Tuesday 10th September 2019 we hosted Coffee Mornings to welcome our new parents, giving them the opportunity to meet other parents and ask any ‘new term’ questions. These mornings are always well attended and are a relaxed way for new parents to make connections.

Oakfield Under the Stars

Over the weekend of Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September 2019, we held our annual camping event in Dulwich Woods. The weather was kind, and everyone had fun!

Wine Tasting

Thursday 17th October 2019 saw our very first Wine Tasting evening run by Tom Doran of Doran Wines. Those in attendance had a great time, as we sampled and learnt about different wines whilst indulging in the fabulous cheese boards supplied by our very talented school chef, Angela Johnston.

Santa Fun Run

On Sunday 1st December 2019 we had our busiest ever Fun Run in Dulwich Park. PE teacher Josh Lawrence very kindly led over one hundred Santas in a warm-up session before the run.

Christmas Panto

In another first for OAFS, we funded two performances by the Tip of the Iceberg Theatre Company to perform a pantomime for all of the children on Friday 12 December. It was a fun-filled extravaganza of action and audience participation, all bundled up in a master-class of the English language. The audience were all totally engaged – from the toddlers in Nursery all the way through to the adults. It was the perfect ending to a very busy few weeks at the end of term and the teachers particularly welcomed the opportunity to sit back, relax and laugh for an hour. Subject to conditions, OAFS plan to fund another two performances in December 2020.

Cauliflower Cards

Every year the children are given the chance to get cards, wrapping paper and mugs – featuring their artwork – produced in time for Christmas.

UF & Y1 Story for Bedtime

Friday 17th January found our Upper Foundation and Year 1 children (and their teachers!) dressed in pyjamas and onesies at the end of their school day. Early Years Coordinator Wendy Nicholson organised rotas for the teaching staff (who very kindly stayed behind to read stories to the children) and parent volunteers, who escorted the children between the various story locations. At the end, all the children gathered in the Prep Hall where they were treated to hot chocolate, marshmallows and cookies provided by our school chef Angela, who amazingly managed to create one inclusive recipe for the children that accounted for all of the dietary restrictions across both year groups!

String Fellows

Yet another OAFS ‘first’ was our Music Night held on Thursday 6th February, raising money to purchase guitars for the Music department. Director of Music, Sam Howes alongside Guitar teacher Marcus Michelucci treated parents and staff to a delightful selection of musical hits whilst we dined on pizza. Watch this space for ‘Music Night 2’...

Y2 & Y3 Film Night

Detective Pikachu was the star attraction for our Year 2 and Year 3 Film Night on Friday 28th February. Parent volunteers helped keep lots of very excited Pokémon fans in check...

Quiz Night

Thursday 12th March saw the return of our annual Quiz Night. Amadeus Martin returned to host another night of fun, laughter, giveaways and mouth-watering food and drinks. One of the highlights was the ‘Name the Tune’ round, with Amadeus playing riffs of famous songs on guitar after only having had a few guitar lessons...

Second Hand Uniform & Cake Bake sales

Last, but by no means least, our volunteers held regular Second Hand Uniform and Cake Bakes sales all year round!
